Masala Moong Dal Poori & Halwai Aaloo


Product used: Riwayatfarms Cold Pressed Sunflower Oil


1/2 cup moong dal, soaked for 2 hours
1 tsp ginger
3-4 cloves garlic
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp fennel seeds
1/2 tsp black peppercorns
Salt, to taste
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp garam masala powder
1/4 tsp hing/asafoetida
1 tsp kasuri methi, crushed
1/2 tsp ajwain
1 tsp sesame seeds
2-3 fresh green/red chillies, chopped
2 tbsp coriander leaves, finely chopped
3 tbsp sooji
1 tbsp oil
2 cups whole wheat flour
Water, only if required
Oil, as required to deep fry


Rinse and soak moong dal for about 2 hours. Drain the water and grind it with ginger, garlic, cumin, fennel and black peppercorns. Add a little water while grinding.
Add this paste in a bowl along with salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, hing, sesame seeds, fresh chillies, kasuri methi, ajwain and coriander leaves. Mix well.
Add sooji, oil, give it a mix and cover it. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
Add whole wheat flour and knead a tight dough. Add water only if required. Roll the poori and drop fry until golden brown. Serve hot.
